Committees and
Commissions
To encourage resident participation in Village
government, the Village President appoints various voluntary citizen
advisory committees comprised of residents with an active interest in
the community. Residents, business people, and/or service agency
representatives who reside, do business, or deliver and/or provide a
service in Hanover Park can be appointed to a committee or commission by
the Village President with the approval of the Board of Trustees.
The Village relies heavily on volunteers to serve on the
Boards, Committees and Commissions. To request a talent profile
application, or if you have any questions pertaining to any of the
Boards, Committees, or Commissions, please contact the Village Manager’s
Office at (630) 372-4210. Appointments are voluntary and there is
no compensation.

The Development Commission reviews and provides
recommendations to the Village Board regarding proposed developments and
subdivisions. The Commission utilizes the Village’s Comprehensive
Plan recommendations to provide long-term policy direction. The
Commission conducts public hearings on all petitions for zoning
variations, special uses, planned unit developments, rezonings (zoning
map amendments), text amendments, comprehensive plan amendments, and
subdivision plats.
Variances are a device to
alleviate unfairness in particular zoning cases. For example,
where a general requirement that all side yards be three feet wide would
work a hardship, because one or two lots might have a shape that was not
consistent with the standard pattern. Permission could be granted
to depart from the standard rules. "Particular difficulties" and
"unnecessary hardship" are generally the only standards.
Special use is a category of use (i.e., house, gas
station, restaurant, etc.) proposed within a zoning district
(residential, commercial, light industry, etc.) that does not meet
standard requirements and which will require additional requirements.
A review ensures the design and location do not impinge greatly upon the
predominant uses in the particular zoning district.
Hanover Park Business CONECT (Committee
on Networking, Education, and Community Teamwork)
The Hanover Park Business CONECT (Committee on Networking, Education,
and Community Teamwork) promotes the Village's business opportunities
through promotional events and activities. They also develop and updates
materials, such as the Village's annual business directory, that
advertise and promote businesses in the Village. The Committee
also facilitates formal and informal networking opportunities at various
Village functions and meetings with the representatives of the business
community. Specific activities held over the last several years
have included the "Mayor's Choice" Business of the Year recognition
program and reception, a real estate luncheon seminar, and business
breakfast.
Hanover Park Business CONECT is always looking for suggestions from
local businesses and participation in promotional events and activities!
Please call the Department of Community Development at (630) 372-4260 if
you would like more information about the Hanover Park Business CONECT.

The Illinois State Chapter of Sister Cities
International held its 2004 Annual Meeting and Convention in Hanover
Park on April 23 - 25, 2004.

Special Events section of our website.
The Sister Cities Committee's functions are to promote,
foster, and publicize local, state, and national Sister Cities Programs.
The committee acts to foster international municipal cooperation through
aid and education.
The
committee participates in several projects throughout the year obtaining
much needed relief items and supplies for our Sister City Cape Coast
Ghana, West Africa.
Due to the generosity of residents, businesses and not-for-profit
agencies, we have been able to forward several containers of goods to
Cape Coast. Our last shipment contained school supplies, office
furniture, hospital/clinic equipment and first aid supplies.
Annually, the Sister Cities collects surplus school supplies from
students of surrounding schools. We also place a drop box in the
front lobby of Village Hall for those individuals who would also like to
contribute. In October, as part of "Make A Difference Day," the
Sister Cities Committee collects first aid supplies to assist the
hospitals/clinics in the Cape Coast area.
Mr. Frank Grant-Acquah, a long standing member of the Sister Cities
Committee, is a Fanti Chief presiding over the Chicagoland area.
