Water and Sewer Rates
Your bimonthly water and sewer bill is calculated using separate rates for water usage and sewer treatment based on the Village’s actual cost of providing these services.
Effective January 1, 2013, the water rate is $7.07 per 1,000 gallons. In addition, there is a service charge of $25.00 applied to each bi-monthly bill. The service charge replaces the minimum bill of 12,000 gallons and ensures that all households share equally in the fixed costs of operating the water distribution system.
Sewer charges vary depending on whether the home is located in Cook County or DuPage County. The rate for Cook County residents is $1.95 for each 1,000 gallons of water used. The rate for DuPage County residents is $5.25 for each 1,000 gallons used. Cook County residents pay an additional sewer charge on their real estate tax bills to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, while DuPage County residents submit their entire payment to the Village which provides their complete sewer service.
Sewer Credit Program
The sewer credit program recognizes varying seasonal water usage. Summer sewer charges are based upon winter water usage. The billing process recognizes that sewer charges should not be applied to water usage that does not enter the sewer system (for example, lawn sprinkling, washing cars, or filling pools). Sewer bills for the summer months are calculated using water consumption in February or March.
Exemption from Service Charge
Effective May 1, 2012, residents age 65 or older or residents enrolled in the Illinois Circuit Breaker Program can apply for an exemption of the $25.00 bi-monthly service charge and therefore will only be charged for actual water usage.
In order to apply for the Senior exemption, you will need to go to the Village Hall to fill out an application and present a government issued photo ID with your date of birth listed. If your government issued photo ID does not list your current Hanover Park address, you will also need to present a bill listing your name and your current Hanover Park address.
