Hanover Park Hosts Class
on
Liquefied Propane Gas Fires

On June 14, 2006, the Hanover Park Fire Department hosted a University
of Illinois Fire Service Institute “Cornerstone Training Program” funded
by Illinois Propane Education & Research Council.

Students were taught the properties and characteristics of propane as
well as the tactical considerations for managing a propane emergency.

Thirty-three firefighters from Hanover Park, Bartlett, Streamwood, Carol
Stream and Elgin attended the course.

Firefighters were taught to use hose streams to cool and dissipate the
3,595° flame temperature while approaching the tank to shut off the flow
of gas.

Once the gas flow is controlled, the tank can be rendered safe.
