Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency 911

If a police or fire emergency arises, or you need an ambulance, call 911, which will connect you with DuComm which is the dispatch center for Hanover Park and is located in Glendale Heights. A police officer will be sent to your location. If you want to report a non-emergency such as traffic accidents, parking violations, stray dogs, or bicycle theft, also call 911.

The Hanover Park Police Department uses the emergency 911 phone system to dispatch all calls for service. You may dial 911 for service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A specially-trained dispatcher will answer your call. The dispatcher will ask for information and send needed emergency personnel.

The proper way of making a 911 call is to call from a safe place. You should attempt to get away from any source of danger (fire, gas, etc.). You can call from a neighbor’s house or a pay phone. The call is free. Stay calm and speak clearly and slowly to make sure you get the help you need. Answer all questions that may be asked by the emergency dispatcher. If you have a cellular phone, be certain to give your location and call-back number. Listen for instructions. Do exactly as the dispatcher says. Stay on the line; don’t hang up until you are told to do so.

You should teach your children how to make 911 calls. Make sure they never make prank calls. Tell children that making fake 911 calls puts peoples’ lives at risk. It is also against the law. Understanding when to call should be explained for all kinds of situations that the child may confront. Also teach your children to know their full name, address, and phone number. Teach them to follow all instructions.

Just a reminder--any calls for service that are needed by the public, call 911 too--it’s not just for emergencies in Hanover Park. An officer or Community Service Officer will be dispatched to the location of the problem. If you require further information on emergency 911, you may call the Hanover Park Police Department desk at (630) 372-4400.
