The Hanover Park Police Department is dedicated to child passenger safety. The Hanover Park Police and Fire Department have certified child safety seat technicians. These technicians can inspect any child safety seat. After the expiration date and recall list are checked, the seats are properly installed into the owner's vehicle. This service is free of charge.

To set up an appointment for an inspection or for more information regarding the free child safety seats available, please contact the Crime Prevention officer at (630) 372-4412.

Child Safety Seat Safety Tips

  1. Never place a child under 12 years of age in the front seat with a passenger side air bag.

  2. Destroy a child safety seat that has been involved in a crash.

  3. Do not place a child in a forward facing child safety seat until the child is a least one year of age and weighs at least 20 pounds.

  4. Most children should be in a booster seat until they are 4'9" tall and weigh 80 pounds.

Top of PageNeighborhood Watch Program

Check out the Neighborhood Watch Newsletter by clicking here.

The Hanover Park Police Department organizes and maintains a Neighborhood Watch Program throughout the Village.

Neighborhood Watch was developed in response to the rising number of burglaries and acts of vandalism being committed in residential neighborhoods. The basic concept of Neighborhood Watch is to educate the community on how to remove the "opportunity" for criminals to commit these types of crimes through deterrence, delay, and detection.

Organizing a Neighborhood Watch group is a relatively simple task. It involves getting to know your neighbors and creating an interest among them to discourage crime in their neighborhood. Then it will be necessary to organize a meeting of these residents. A Crime Prevention Officer will present the program at this meeting and answer questions about it.

If the group decides to become involved in Neighborhood Watch, then block captains should be elected. Block captains act as a liaison between the Police Department and the residents. The block captains will be responsible for disseminating information about crime patterns in the area and other special functions.

The key to having a successful Neighborhood Watch group is being aware of suspicious activities and becoming involved by reporting them to the police. Being involved does not require a great deal of your time, but it does require a commitment to keeping your neighborhood safe.

Should you have any questions about Neighborhood Watch, or are interested in organizing a Neighborhood Watch meeting, you can call a Crime Prevention Officer at (630) 372-4412.
