Back to TopSnowplowing

  • Snow plowMain streets are cleared first, secondary (residential) streets are second, and cul-de-sacs are cleared last.
  • Intersections are salted after snowplowing.  In cases of severe icing, intersections and straight sections of road are salted immediately.
  • Snowplow drivers are instructed to avoid stopping and talking to residents.

Back to TopParking

Snow PlowA Village ordinance prohibits parking on Village streets for 24 hours following a two-inch or more snowfall.

Back to TopSidewalks

A Village ordinance requires sidewalks to be cleared of snow within 24 hours of a two-inch or more snowfall.  This allows safe access for pedestrians.

Back to TopGarbage Pickup

Place garbage out two hours before pickup on or close to the driveway to minimize garbage containers becoming snow covered due to the plows.

Back to TopContacting the Village

  • Except in an emergency, avoid calling the Village or Police Department during a snow storm so that emergency calls can get through.
  • In emergencies, dial 911.
  • Following a snowfall, nonemergency calls can be made to (630) 372-4440 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; call (630) 372-4400 after 4:30 pm

Back to TopAvoid Frozen Water Pipes

  • When inside plumbing is on an outside wall, let the faucet drip slightly during very cold nights.
  • If the water meter is located near a broken or cracked window, fix the window immediately.
  • Don't turn the thermostat down drastically when taking a winter vacation.
  • Ask the Village to shut off your water if you're moving and listing the house with a real estate agent.
  • When thawing frozen pipes, leave the faucet on.  This allows the ice and water to pass through as the pipe thaws.
