The Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which legalizes (and regulates) the sale and use of recreational cannabis in the State of Illinois, becomes effective on January 1, 2020. Municipalities have the authority ‘opt-in’ or ‘opt-out’ of sale and to enact reasonable zoning regulations that are not in conflict with the act.
The Hanover Park Village Board are considering opting in to allow for the sale of recreational cannabis, with a maximum of 2 business licenses, 1 in each county, with no on-premise consumption allowed. The Village Board has directed the Hanover Park Development Commission to hold a Public Hearing in order to discuss zoning issues such as the location (zoning district), geographic criteria, hours of operation, whether the use should be permitted by right or as a special use, etc.
The Hanover Park Development Commission will conduct a public hearing pertaining to recreational cannabis facilities and make a recommendation to the Village Board of Trustees. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019, in Room 214 of the Village Hall. Interested persons may appear and be heard at the public hearing.
If you have questions prior to the hearing or would like to provide feedback on the topic and cannot attend the meeting, please call the Community & Economic Development Department at (630) 823-5780 or email to communitydevelopment@hpil.org.
