Canadian Pacific Merger Will Increase Train Traffic Through Hanover Park
Canadian Pacific Railway Limited is in the proposal process to acquire Kansas City Southern rail network. This potential acquisition would join the northern and southern US into one system that reduces the number of train reconfigurations in railyards.
The potential impact on Hanover Park would result in approximately 6-8 additional freight trains traveling on the Milwaukee West line through the Village per day. The Village has begun working with other affected municipalities to quantify the impact on residents and businesses. .
An informational website, set up by Canadian Pacific in coordination with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board to keep the public informed about merger, is available at: https://www.cp-kcsmergereis.com.
The Surface Transportation Board is looking for input from residents or business owners who feel they may be impacted by additional freight traffic. Citizens can voice their concerns at upcoming Public Meetings on December 8 and 9. Submit your public comment here: https://www.cp-kcsmergereis.com/involvement.htm.
Canadian Pacific is currently in the scoping process and developing an Environmental Impact Statement and holding online public scoping meetings. The railway is seeking public comment through December 17, 2021.
