Hanover Park Kicks Off Labor Day Campaign for Safe and Sober Driving

The Hanover Park Police Department announced its plans for a traffic safety campaign focusing on impaired driving and other dangerous behavior such as distracted driving and failure to buckle up. With messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” "If You Feel Different, You Drive Different" and "Drive High Get a DUI," the high-visibility mobilization is running from Aug. 20 through the early morning hours of Sept.7 to include the Labor Day holiday, an often-deadly time on Illinois roads.

The Hanover Park Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort.

This Labor Day weekend remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family drive drunk or impaired by drugs. Even a small amount of alcohol or other drug can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.

The Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

2021 Roadway Resurfacing Update

The final phase of concrete work is wrapping up on the resurfaced streets. Crews are expected to have this portion of the project between Hawk Hollow Forest Preserve and Schick Rd completed by the end of next week.  Arrow Road Construction will also be milling the pavement surface on the remaining streets starting next week as well.

Residents living on streets which have been completed, where sidewalk locations have been improved, will notice straw matting in these areas. This matting is to protect the newly seeded parkway and remains in place. As the grass grows through the mat, residents are asked to increase the cutting height of their lawn mower to accommodate the matting. The straw matting will disintegrate over time, however once the grass is established residents can remove the matting if they choose. As always residents will have access to their street and driveways during the construction progress, however minor delays may occur.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding construction activities, please contact Public Works at 630-823-5700 for additional information.

2021 Water Main Project and Resurfacing

Construction for this project is scheduled to begin on September 7, 2021, with water main replacement on Maplewood Avenue.

As a part of this project, Valley View Road, Maplewood Avenue, Walnut Avenue and Orchard Lane will be improved. These improvements will include water main replacement on Maplewood Ave, various storm sewer improvements, spot drainage improvements (e.g., curb and gutter replacement), spot sidewalk removal and replacement to meet the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, pavement patching, removal and replacement of the existing asphalt surface, pavement markings, and restoration.

The public will have access to the streets and driveways during the construction progress, however minor delays may occur.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding construction activities, please contact Public Works at 630-823-5700 for additional information.
