Police Dept Signs on to "30x30" Initiative to Advance Women in Policing

The Hanover Park Police Department is pleased to announce that it has signed on to the 30x30 Pledge, an initiative started as a result of research by the National Institute of Justice, which seeks to increase the representation and improve the experiences of women in law enforcement. Currently, women comprise only approximately 12 percent of sworn police officer positions in the United States, and they have traditionally faced challenges and obstacles unique to their gender in the field of law enforcement. Agencies signing on to the Pledge agree to implement a series of low and no-cost initiatives that address recruitment, hiring, promotion, and agency culture to ensure gender equality and eliminate any barriers to advance women in policing. The ultimate goal of the Pledge is for women to make up 30 percent of police recruit classes by the year 2030.

“Taking this Pledge reinforces our commitment to ensuring the representation and positive professional experiences of our hardworking and dedicated women officers, who currently comprise about 20 percent of the sworn roster,” said Chief Andrew Johnson. “I look forward to working together with them and engaging our partner agencies to move this initiative forward.”

I-Cash Program

Illinois’ unclaimed property program—also known as I-Cash—is one of the state’s oldest consumer protection initiatives. The State Treasurer is tasked with safeguarding unclaimed property, such as the contents of overlooked safe deposit boxes, unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and unused rebate cards. Illinois holds more than $3.5 billion in unclaimed property.
