This Memorial Day, Click it-  Don't Risk It!

Summer is just around the corner, and while travel plans may vary, one thing remains constant: the need to wear your seat belt. With this in mind, the Hanover Park Police Department today announced that now through Memorial Day weekend it is stepping up enforcement efforts to remind motorists to “Click It or Ticket.”

“Whether you’re driving around the corner or across the nation, remember to buckle up every time,” said Deputy Chief Victor DiVito. “The ‘Click It or Ticket’ effort is about preserving lives. We want seat belt use to be second nature for all drivers and passengers.”

The consequences of not wearing or improperly wearing a seat belt are clear. In 2022, Illinois had 300 fatalities involving unrestrained passengers. Seat belts only save lives when they are used. Unfortunately, some still don’t like to buckle up.

Nationally, it is estimated that 91.9% of people use seat belts, while Illinois boasts a 93% seat belt compliance rate. The simple click of a seat belt can limit injury or save your life during a crash.

Remember to “Click It or Ticket” day and night, every trip every time.

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Construction  Updates

Watch for weekly updates regarding construction projects that are in progress in the Village of Hanover Park. Visit our website at www.hpil.org/Construction for a list of locations and projects. We appreciate your patience during the construction season.

HYDRANT SANDBLASTING AND PAINTING- This week, the Village’s 2024 Hydrant Painting project began. This project consists of removing the existing paint on a hydrant via sandblasting, applying primer, and then applying paint. This project shouldn’t disrupt the public, and screens will be used to prevent damage to nearby vehicles or structures.

RESURFACING- It’s that time of year again!  Construction has begun on the Village’s 2024 Resurfacing Project.  The contractor started saw cutting and storm structure adjustments on the north side streets (Hickory St, Burr Oak St, Sycamore Ave, Walnut Ave, Magnolia St, Church St).  Concrete removal is expected to start at the end of this week.  Residents who lose driveway access due to the concrete removal will be notified before that starts.
