Record Low Crime 

2024 Part I Crime Total is Lowest in Village History;

22% Decline from ‘23

Hanover Park, IL – The Hanover Park Police Department is proud to report that the 2024 Part I crime recorded total is an all-time record low in Village history. Part I Crime is the benchmark used by the FBI to determine crime rates in cities and villages.

 Overall, 192 Part I Crimes were recorded in 2024 versus 246 in 2023. This represents a 22% year-over-year drop.  Of note, a significant reduction in thefts was recorded. The police department had identified theft reduction as a strategic priority and implemented several deployment measures and the use of technology, such as license plate reader cameras. These strategies have contributed to both the decline in incidents, as well as the successful investigation and prosecution of those that do occur. The Village also experienced a drop in violent crimes, including murder, criminal sexual assault, aggravated assault/battery, and arson.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank our officers, investigators, command staff, and civilian personnel for their dedication and hard work that have helped achieve this outstanding result” said Police Chief Andrew Johnson. “I also greatly appreciate the support from Village Manager Maller, our Village Board, and Mayor Craig. Without that support, we would not have the resources needed to achieve our mission.” Chief Johnson noted the police department’s commitment to community policing strategies and the importance of strengthening community partnerships. “We will remain committed to working with our residents, schools, businesses, and community stakeholders to identify and address issues in our Village as they occur. I encourage everyone to connect with us on social media, participate in our ART meetings and events, and keep working with us to keep Hanover Park safe.”

 Overall, Part I crime in the Village of Hanover Park has been on a downward trend over the past decade as shown in the chart below:

Historically, the Village’s crime rate (a measure of the experience of crime as a function of population) has dropped dramatically since 1974, the year in which crime statistics began to be reported:

“The evolution of Hanover Park into the great community that it is today has been a rewarding process involving our entire Village coming together,” said Mayor Rodney Craig. “It has been the outcome of building partnerships, being committed to problem solving, and maintaining the highest levels of professionalism. We support our police department with the best training, equipment, and staffing they need to do their jobs and go home to their families at the end of their shifts. Our historically low crime is something Hanover Park can be proud of as we strive to be a great place to live, work, visit, and do business.”
