Apiary Open House is Tomorrow! 

Join the Hanover Park Environmental Committee at our Apiary Open House tomorrow from 1:00 PM to 4:00PM. This event is held at 2500 Army Trail Road. Visit our beehives, learn about honeybees, and how you can get started keeping honeybees in Hanover Park! There will be free giveaways and activities for kids!

Movie in the Park - Friday, June 19th

Movies in the Park are back for the summer! We are kicking off the season with the movie, National Treasure, on June 19th in East Harbor Park! Be sure to bring your family and friends, along with lawn chairs and blankets. Games and activities start at 7:45 PM with the movie kicking off at dusk.

There will be activities celebrating America's 250th Anniversary. The Village's Historic Committee will have a table with information about Hanover Park's history. Kona Ice will be selling treats!

Juneteenth Celebration - Saturday, June 20th

The Hanover Park Sister Cities Committee and Friends of Sister Cities are pleased to host this year's Juneteenth Celebration! Join in the fun with live music, DJ, food, games, and more on June 20th at the Hanover Park Sports Complex from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Construction Updates

Arlington Drive Bridge Replacement Update: Only minor punchlist work remains, which will be completed in the coming weeks.

 2026 Resurfacing Update: This week, the contractor finished all asphalt paving. Restoration work is currently underway.

 2026 Concrete Replacement Update: In the upcoming weeks, the Village’s contractor will be completing spot sidewalk and curb and gutter replacement throughout the Village.  

 2026 Fire Hydrant Painting Update: In the upcoming weeks, the Village’s contractor will sandblast and paint fire hydrants on Lake Street, as well as the neighborhoods along Lake Street.

Center Avenue Sidewalk Update: Only minor punch list work remains and should be completed in the coming weeks.

 Lake Street Multi-Use Path Update: The contractor continued work on traffic signal upgrades and removing the sidewalk for the new path. This work is expected to continue for the next week. This project will include daily lane closures along Lake Street from Church Street/Metra Station to Turnberry Drive.

County Farm Road Multi-Use Path Update: Path installation will resume once utility relocations take place. 

Fiber Installation (Lumos/T-Mobile): Lumos/T-Mobile has several fiber installation projects throughout the Village. These are not Village-run projects. Any questions or concerns about these projects should be directed to Lumos’s Construction Hotline at 800-905-9017. If you leave your name, address, and phone number, they will follow up within 48 hours.

Inspectional Services New Digital Services

The Hanover Fire Department Inspectional Services Division has enhanced its operations to provide a safe and convenient process for conducting business with the Village.  All documents required to apply for building permits, contractor licenses, or business licenses can now be submitted digitally using our online forms.  We will review your submittal, communicate any necessary information, and issue your permit or license digitally.  We can also accept payments online and schedule any inspections needed by email.  All email submittals and requests can be sent to iservices@hpil.org.

A fully digital process means a more efficient review process and a safer transaction for everyone.  Applying for a building permit, license or scheduling inspections has never been more convenient!

Be Prepared for an Emergency: Learn CPR.  Save a Life.  

In a cardiac emergency, every minute counts. CPR can double or even triple the chance of survival. Protecting your family, your friends, and your community starts with being prepared. The Hanover Park Fire Department offers CPR training, which includes learning child and adult CPR, how to help a choking victim, and how to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The next class for the general public is on Saturday, June 20th.

During final preparations for the 2026 season, the Park District discovered an unforeseen mechanical issue that required repairs before they could safely open the Seafari Springs Aquatic Center. The team is working diligently to complete the necessary repairs and prepare the facility for a safe opening. 

The opening of the Aquatic Center has now been scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th. 

As a thank you for support from residents, the Park District is offering:

• 50% OFF Daily Admission on Saturday, June 13

• FREE Guest Pass for Current Season Passholders

• Special Discount on 2027 Season Pass Renewals for Current Passholders

Seafari Springs Aquatic Center announces an opening delay, with the center reopening on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. They are offering 50% off daily admission on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as a thank you for patience and support. Season pass holders also receive special benefits.

Plant a Seed, Read Summer Challenge - May 26 - August 1:  Sign up is now available. Participants can come in and pick up a reading log or track their reading progress on Beanstack. If you already have an account from last year, use the same login information. (Hint: Your username is your email or phone number).

  • Kids (ages 0 to 11) Read for 40 days and earn a badge for every 10 days of reading. Read for 40 days to finish the challenge and earn a FREE BOOK!
  • Teens (ages 12 to 19) Read for 40 days to finish the challenge and earn a FREE BOOK! All reading counts, whether it is 5 minutes or 105 minutes. Includes graphic novels, magazines, eBooks, audiobooks, or school reading.
  • Adults (20+) Read for 40 days to finish the challenge and earn a FREE SUCCULENT PLANT! All reading counts, whether you are reading to your children or a report for work.

Free Summer Meals - June 8 - August 7 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Stop by the library for a free, nutritious lunch. Meals are available to all children 18 and under, Mondays - Fridays, June 8 through August 7.

The Library has partnered with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to be a summer meals distribution site. The federal Summer Meals program requires that children eat their meals on site. Activities will be available for children to enjoy in the Library during meal distribution.

Summer Meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education. 

Tween Video Game Challenge - June 11 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Join the library and put your reflexes, visual acuity, strategy, and videogame skills to the test. To register, visit the library's website.

Summer Reading Kickoff @ Main Branch - June 7 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Begin your epic reading journey with a free, family-friendly kickoff celebration for the library's “Reading is Epic” Summer Reading Challenge! Join the library for an interactive magic show performed by Scott Piner and free shaved ice from the Kona Ice food truck. While supplies last. 

Summer Lunches at the Library @ Main Branch - June 9 - August 13 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Stop by the library to pick up free lunches from the Northern Illinois Food Bank for those under 18. Lunches will be available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this summer. Lunches must be eaten on-site. Supplies are limited.

Poplar Creek Public Library is interviewing longtime Streamwood & Hanover Park residents about their experiences living here. The interviews will be made public and shared in the library's digital history collection, found at pclib.org/history. Interviews will run from 15 to 60 minutes.
