"Sudden cardiac arrest occurs without warning or within minutes after symptoms appear. More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year. The location of the out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) most often occurs in homes/residences (73.4%) followed by public settings (16.3%), and nursing homes (10.3%). If performed immediately, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival from an out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The 2023 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics state that among the over 356,000 OHCA that occurred, 40.2% receive bystander CPR." (American Heart Association).

The Hanover Park Fire Department, in association with the American Heart Association, is dedicated to teaching you the lifesaving skills you will need when witnessing a cardiac arrest.
Please note: All 2026 Scheduled classes will be Healthcare Provider (BLS). Heartsaver AED, Stop the Bleed, and First Aid classes are offered as group classes by request. Please contact the Hanover Park Fire Department to schedule these classes for your group or organization. (630) 823-5800.
