Special Recognition Award_HanoverParkThe Village of Hanover Park is proud to have received a Gold designation from SolSmart, a national program led by the  International City/County Management Association and The Solar Foundation. 

In addition to achieving Gold level designation, Hanover Park received the 2018 Solsmart Special Recognition Award for Demonstrating Solar Excellence in Inspections. The award celebrates and shines a light on communities that have gone above and beyond by earning at least 60% of the total points available in one or more of the eight Solsmart categories of Permitting; Planning, Zoning and Development; Construction Codes; Solar Rights: Utility Engagement; Community Engagement; and Marketing, Development and Finance.

The SolSmart program funded by the U.S Department of Energy SunShot Initiative, helps local governments reduce barriers to solar energy growth and make it easier for homes and businesses to go solar. Read through the Hanover Park Solar Permitting Guidelines and Checklist .

The Village 2010 Comprehensive Plan embraces green technology, green building design, and sustainable energy. The Plan seeks the removal of obstacles in the Village Code that might hinder sustainable development, ensuring building design which is response to and works in harmony with Hanover Park’s climate and natural systems, promoting solar energy optimization, and adopting solar and wind energy ordinances which include guidelines for setback, solar and wind access, noise disturbance and safety issues relating to each renewable technology. As a Bronze designated community, Hanover Park commits to a three (3) day review of all complete building permit applications for installation of Solar Energy Systems.”
